Formed in San Francisco, United States in 1982 by guitarist Eric Peterson and his cousin, also guitarist, Derrick Ramirez but with the initial name Legacy. Bassist Greg Christian, drummer Mike Ronchette, and singer Steve Souza then joined the group. With these changes, Ramirez was also replaced by the young guitarist Alex Skolnick, who had studied with the legendary guitarist Joe Satriani in the Bay Area, was as well as their first demo came in 1986 with four songs.
Their first album, The Legacy, was released in 1987 on Megaforce Records. It is a concise and technical album of thrash metal which launched them to fame and the more candidate circles of thrash beginning to be compared with the pioneers of thrash Bay Area, Metallica. The album was immediately hailed as a classic with their furious riffs and harmonic sensibility. Quickly gained fame and success with a tour across America and Europe, with Anthrax (then at the height of his career with "Among The Living"), where they recorded the Live at Eindhoven.
The disc unveiled Testament within the admirers of the genre at the time. This is typical themes of thrash metal, such as the occult, witchcraft, nuclear war, and world destruction. Oddly, the song titled "The Legacy" was not published until the 1990 album Souls of Black. Finally, a well balanced album, with songs that became classics of Thrash and Metal of all time.

Even within the underground environment have been applauded and admired by many musicians both inside and outside of the metal such as Soundgarden, Sonic Youth and Killing Joke scene.
Influenced by the NWOBHM and the cold war, his post-apocalyptic music later changed to science fiction themes. Voivod became quite popular with the 1989 release Nothingface which presents a version of Pink Floyd's "Astronomy Domine" (from their album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn). Later versionarían another song from Pink Floyd, "The Nile Song" (from the soundtrack of the film More), on their 1993 album The Outer Limits.
With their third album vovoid manages to channel chaos on more routes controlled access, but without neglecting the thrash sound completely. A sound much more mature, qen mainly owing to the production of Harris Johns. It was released by Noise Records in 1987 and was the first album to add progressive sound to his style of thrash metal. An excellent album of 100% pure Thrash. Recommended.

283 Napalm Death - Scum (1987)

Napalm Death is a band of grindcore founded in Birmingham, England. The band was formed in 1982 by Nic Bullen, Miles Ratledge and Justin Broadrick (future founder of Godflesh), as a simple group of piss. On the principles of the band, a very large number of musicians passed through it, and for the recording of their first album and it was not any original member. In 1987 entered the band Shane Embury (the only Member that is still in the Group) on bass, drummer Mick Harris (future creator of Scorn, Painkiller (from Bill Laswell), etc), Lee Dorrian (future Cathedral member) on vocals and Bill Steer (future leader of Carcass) on guitar. With this formation they recorded Scum, which was the first LP of the band for its Crust sound.
Scum is a recommendation for all those who love good metal and for those who like the rarities, and more that all those who like to have a historical piece of music.
28 songs maybe and sound compilations disk but the truth is that the whole album lasts a little more than half an hour, and has perhaps the song shorter it ever recorded "You suffer". Scum should not try to listen to song by song, would be a mistake, the disc is an integer, and I say this because of the difficulty of differentiating when I finish a song and begins a different entire disk has that quality, a growling almost incomprehensible by the two vocalists has this productiona drums and guitar with many influences punk but are defined by its new aggressiveness this genus and very Socialist letters that attract anyone.

284 Pentagram - Day Of Reckoning (1987)

Pentagram is an American heavy metal band from Virginia. Outstanding in the field of music by be considered, along with Black Sabbath, as precursors of the movement that eventually became known as doom metal. Formed in 1971, was a band of low profile during the Decade of the 70's recording some demos and own tapes but unsuccessfully to release a full album until the 1980s, now with a completely different background. Throughout the history of the band the sole constant member is vocalist Bobby Liebling and many of its members have participated in bands of renown in Place of Skulls, Internal Void, Spirit Caravan, among many others.
In 1985 the band finally released their first full album. While the album's title is Pentagram, is frequently mentioned as Relentless due to the fact that this name was given when Peaceville Records reissued and released the album in 1993. East Second Edition contains songs from the 70's and throughout the album in 1985 called Pentagram. They would later launched a Day of Reckoning and the band split up again.
In 1987 Pentagram far confined to interpret the work of others, reached through this apocalyptic 'Day of Reckoning' heaven among the deities of a genus, apart from the own Sabbath and the other two titans of la Movida Madrileña (Saint Vitus and Candlemass) remained intact until today. Not only is it a discazo. It is not only a masterpiece. It is undoubtedly a lesson that defined a genre.

285 Pretty Maids – Future World (1987)

Pretty Maids is a heavy metal of Horsens, Denmark band. Formed in 1981 their sound can be defined as something between Europe and Running Wild.
Pretty Maids was founded in 1981 by guitarist Ken Hammer, along with vocalist Ronnie Atkins, Pete Collins on guitar, John Darrow as bassist, Alan Owen on keyboards and Phil Moorhead on drums. In 1983 they recorded an EP with producer Tommy Hansen at Jailhouse Studios. Later, Collins and Darrow were replaced by Rick Hanson and Allan Delong.
In 1984 they recorded "Red Hot and Heavy" again with Tommy Hansen. In 1987 they return to work with "Future World" replacing Hanson by Benny Petersen (former White Lion) and Eddie Kramer as a producer. The band tour alongside Angel g. Schleifer, until he entered the 1988 in Bonfire.
Disc of the mythical 1987, with strength of guitars, as well as the changing voice of Ronnie Atkins, showing a few records as disparate they seem two vocalists, instead of one. To the more King Diamond, Atkins style alternates between one soft record with another much more aggressive and powerful, making a sublime combination. The cover with colorful and inspired, shows that future world album. The album was produced by Eddie Kramer and the chorus participates Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Impellitteri and Alcatrazz). Complete disc of Pretty Maids, recommendation will surprise more than one.

The Oliva brothers left us a full album of heavy metal already with some differential touches on his initials "Sirens", "The Dungeons are Calling", "Power of the Night" and "Fight for the Rock", moving on land more direct and primitive.
In 1987, Savatage released their first commercially successful album, Hall Of The Mountain King, which became the base to launch the band to a more popular scenario. The band recorded their first music video for the song Hall Of The Mountain King, which was repeatedly broadcast on the TV spot on MTV Headbanger's Ball, later made a video for the song "24 Hours Ago". This album also introduced them to a new musical style, presenting symphonic instrumentation strongly influenced by his new producer, Paul O'Neill, who would become an important part in the forging of the band's future songs.
This would be the prelude for his wonderful "Gutter Ballet" where definitively exploded creating legend, thanks to the orquestalidad and development in its proposal, without abandoning the heavy style to such good results it had given, took greater prominence to the keyboard of Jon Oliva and enlarged his musical spectrum, was provided with the sound of a depth and musicality of greater complexity.
"Hall of the Mountain King" is a notable album of heavy metal of the good, showing a band in meteoric progression, forging and improving his style, which contains impressive themes.

287 Sarcophagus - INRI (1987)

Sarcophagus was an influential Brazilian extreme metal band. The Group was led by the original singer of Sepultura, Wagner Lamounier, and Geraldo Minelli. They have been described as the most controversial Brazilian metal band, and they have frequently caused different reactions in the metal scene.
Sarcophagus was formed in 1985 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Taking as influences to bands of extreme metal like Bathory, Celtic Frost, Slayer and hardcore punk, the objective of sarcophagus was create more aggressive music in the world. Wagner Lamounier, who had separated with acrimony of Sepultura in March of that same year, was invited to join the band. Although he never recorded anything with Sepultura, he wrote the lyrics of the song Antichrist, from the EP Bestial Devastation.
Sarcophagus released I.N.R.I in July 1987. The dress of the band on the cover of the album - corpse, leather jackets and belts of bullets - is considered one of the earliest visual depictions of black metal. The music also had a great influence, being considered a milestone in the history of the genre. While the album was well received, Lamounier was not satisfied with the outcome and complained about the quality of the recording sessions.
After the release of I.N.R.I., sarcophagus made a short break. Lamounier moved to Uberlândia to study economic sciences at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), while Butcher and his brother D.D. Crazy left the group.
This recording is considered one of the albums that helped define the musical style of black metal.

288 Sodom - Persecution Mania (1987)

Sodom is a thrash metal band formed in the German city of Gelsenkirchen, by Thomas Such (aka Angelripper) on bass and vocals, and Frank Testegen (aka Agressor) on guitars. Influenced by groups of heavy metal, hard rock and punk rock acts such as Motörhead, Venom, Accept, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Tank, AC/DC, Discharge and Ramones, are considered a cornerstone in the thrash and Kreator, Tankard and Destruction who together greatly helped define the sound of extreme metal.
In 1986 is preparing the release of their first LP, called Obsessed by Cruelty with lyrics based on a. Crowley magick. This shows the golden age of the boys of Gelsenkirchen. In this album, guitarist Michael "destructor" Wulff, who then left the band to join Kreator was present. Wulff died in a motorcycle accident in 1993. This album features the song "Deathlike Silence", whose name was the inspiration for Euronymous, former guitarist of Mayhem, would use you for his own label: "Deathlike Silence Productions".

After this, the band decided to abolish its Satanic image, replacing it with the theme of the war. With this panorama and a new guitarist, Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik, edited a new material that includes 2 LP´s, a live album and one EP: Persecution Mania, 1987 LP, which was the first cover with the mascot of the band "Knarrenheinz" from this album, Sodom changes its style described as "Blackened thrash metal" to thrash metal, with topics war, referring to the war of Viet Nam.

289 Trouble - Run to the Light (1987)

Trouble is an American doom metal band, considered along with Saint Vitus and The Obsessed as a classic of the genre in North America. Listed in its early days by Brian Slagel owner of record label, Metal Blade Records as a white metal band by the lyrics of their songs they actually never have been considered as a Christian rock band, but in its most pure and traditional as a doom metal band.
Although their sound is part-time compared to funeral doom bands such Thergothon as Skepticism or even bands from death/doom as My Dying Bride, in the 80's that the NWOBHM and thrash metal endeavoured to create sounds increasingly fast, Trouble retains riffs and slow times in the vein of the doom of Black Sabbath but with trouts guitars protochillantes and distorted in the vein of pure heavy metal such as Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, producing a slow, dark, gloomy sound.
The band was on tour in South America and in the Midwest of the United States in the early 80's before sign with Metal Blade Records and launched their first self-titled debut album, Trouble (later known as Psalm 9) in 1984. This album pure vein of doom metal followed The Skull in 1985 where the problems of the Group and the vocalist Eric Wagner substance abuse become apparent. Bassist McAllister was replaced with Ron Holzner shortly afterwards left the group. Jeff Olson soon left the band to become a priest. He was replaced by Dennis Lesch for the 1987 album Run to the Light.
Great album, no doubt, is digested easily and should have a respectable acceptance by all members of the metal community, however it is of these works unfairly semi-olvidados by unreliable results such as sales and acceptance collected at the time of its issue.

290 Warlock - Triumph And Agony (1987)

Warlock was born in Düsseldorf, Germany at the beginning of the 1980s, and they shot to fame when they were joined by a young lady name Doro Pesch in 1983. They released four studio albums, but certain legal problems were presented in 1988 with the name of the band, which caused Doro to continue as a soloist, in a fairly successful career and remains active to this day.
"Triumph And Agony" is the fourth and last album of this band under the name of Warlock, and certainly his best material, considered a classic heavy metal in the 1980s. Released in 1987, this disc contains all those details that popularized the metal in that decade, powerful guitars, galloping bass and the 30metre battery; all of this accompanied by the stunning blonde whose powerful and somewhat raspy voice makes it sound like the female version of Blackie Lawless. At that time the band was formed by Doro Pesch on vocals, Tommy Bolan and Niko Arvanitis on guitars, Tommy Henriksen on bass, and Michael Eurich on drums.
A classic eighties metal. Warlock opened the way for many bands led by female vocalists, especially because Doro was commissioned to show that it could rub shoulders with anyone in the world of heavy metal. Highly recommended to fans of heavy metal classic.

291 Whitesnake - White Snake (1987)

Whitesnake is the seventh Studio album by the British band of hard rock/heavy metal of the same name, released on April 7, 1987. This album became known in Europe as "1987".

The album was a huge success on both sides of the Atlantic with potential sales of more than eight million copies only in the United States (and therefore eight times Platinum). The album peaked at number # 2 on the Billboard 200.
By far, has been the most successful work of the band to date, with two issues (and their only) Top 10 of Billboard ("Here I Go Again" at number one and then the power ballad "Is This Love", which reached number two). Its success even boosted its predecessor, Slide It In, certified gold to double platinum disc.
Other extracted singles were "Still of The Night", "Crying in the Rain" and "Give Me All Your Love". "Crying in the Rain" and "Here I Go Again" had already been released in 1982 as part of the album Saints & Sinners, but with versions more slow and extensive than the best-known 1987.
A reissue remastered for this album, consisting of a DVD with music videos and live performances, was released in 2007 as the 20th anniversary Special Edition.
Despite the resounding success of Whitesnake, the internal relations of the band were not well. After the sessions of the album in 1987, David Coverdale decided to expel John Sykes. Never confirmed versions indicated that everything was due to an excess of role of Sykes in the scenario, aspect which apparently upset the lead vocalist.
Meanwhile, the other two companions, Neil Murray and Aynsley Dunbar, not supported the decision, and all this, combined with other personal problems caused that they will leave the same year before the issuance of the album, with what the grouping should be renewed in almost its entirety.
For Whitesnake album was a point and separate why renewed and put the day both their sound and image. If their previous album "Slide it in" already a little pointed these ways the entry into the band of guitarist John Sykes was crucial to the band in a more metal sound akin to what it sounded at the moment.

292 Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988)

Seventh are of seventh are is a really special and important album in the career of Iron Maiden, as well as a disk in any collection. This represents the last classical album of the band, as well as the last of the star formation Dickinson-Harris-Smith-Murray-McBrain, given that the guitarist Adrian Smith would retire to kick off his solo project.
Just as in their previous album, Somewhere in Time, prevalent use of synthesizers during the tour were executed by the technical assistant to Steve Harris, Michael Kenney. Although it is a medieval theme album, the lyrics of the songs brings a degree of modern social and political criticism.
Seventh are of seventh are is the seventh album by the band, which from the very beginning is related to the title of the album. In addition, it is the first and only theme album of the band, and although all songs show cohesion among themselves, the real story begins to count in the second half of the album, precisely on the subject which gives name to the disk.
All this because the album is inspired by the fantasy novel of Orson Scott Card, "The seventh son of the seventh son", which tells the story of a boy who at the time of birth, as the seventh son of his father, who in turn also was a seventh son, is being manipulated from the moment of his birth by forces of good and evil. According to old Western mythology, the seventh son or daughter of a seventh son would have supernatural powers. It should be noted that Scott Card wrote 4 novels of this lag behind, and the only album is inspired by the first.

293 Bathory - Blood Fire Death (1988)

Blood Fire Death is the fourth album by Bathory, who continued the transition to the epic terrain from the previous album. This can be considered his first work in the viking metal genre, it is also considered by many fans as the best job in the band. The ninth song was not included on the cassette release.
In 1988 was released Blood Fire Death (blood fire death), time when they joined the band as drummer Vvornth and Kotthar as bassist to join Quorthon, so for the first time could know a stable lineup, where these three gods were in the back. The issues were complicated, what you would much better Bathory, in contrast to his first fast tracks, his music was approaching ever closer to death and viking metal; their lyrics were also changed, they now spoke more about myths and legends, wars, battles, and the Viking age, where Quorthon exprimía its inspirational source of Norse mythology. The music sounded even more sumptuous there was frequent use of backing vocals and keyboards that added you a new dimension of sound in his early works. For the first time also published a photo of the band, the bad is that Quorthon not liked much the idea and decided not to do so in future work.
The lyrics of "The Golden Walls of Heaven" and "Dies Irae" are acrósticos: the first letters of each line are the phrases "SATAN" (repeated 8 times) and "CHRIST THE BASTARD SON OF HEAVEN" ("Christ the bastard son of heaven") respectively.
The re-release of the album In The Nightside Eclipse of Emperor in 1999 contains a cover of "A Fine Day to Die", recorded during the sessions for the Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk.

294 Carcass - symphonies Of sickness (1988)

At the time (late 1980s) in which the rock music scene was dominated by traditional metal groups with quite a few years behind their backs and a mature career (Iron Maiden and Judas Priest) and even slightly in decline (Scorpions), a burgeoning scene Glam/Sleazy Hardrockera predominantly American (L.A. Guns, Ratt, Mötley Crüe, Poison, etc) and a scene Thrashera already fully advanced and some of his Titans having gifted works gender Summitin those times I say, there are small groups of teenagers with musical ideas totally schizophrenic and brutal. Arises early Grindcore.
Carcass is a band of grindcore and death metal, from Liverpool, England. Carcass emerges as a band brutal and full of energy, with lyrics about human diseases, with an atmosphere slaughters and full of raw and intense sound. Carcass was innovative, as part of the wave bands of aggression such as Napalm Death and Pungent Stench.
Symphonies of sickness is her first Studio album, released in July 1988 by the Earache Records label. The original cover of the album was banned and was later replaced by a more accessible to the audience. Symphonies of sickness cover was also used in the Symphonies of Sickness album but with a different color scheme. In the years 2002 / 2003 the original cover of the album was authorized again. Symphonies of sickness was re-released on CD for the first time in 1989 on Earache Records, and was remastered album Symphonies of Sickness which gives a length of 76: 25 minutes.
In September 2008 the reissue was remastered in a Dualdisc (CD and DVD combined) in a Digipak of luxury which came out with the mini documentary Medical.
An absolute piece of archaeology, music, essential to understand the prolific music scene extreme it flourish a few years later, but that it has failed to overcome the density and bestiality of the disc.

295 Crimson Glory - Transcendence (1988)

Crimson Glory Americans, formed in 1982, are parents of much more than what people think. His image (priceless of all, with its silver masks), their sound (neat, bright and sharp, reminiscent of Savatage, Queensrÿche, Judas Priest or Fates Warning, among others), imagery, epic and "comicbookera", and certainly the piece of vocalist had, Midnight (a total wonder), ingredients, and exploited, by all the parish which began as a fan of the Glory and ended up selling his own history. Much of "chicha" kitchen in the move "Eurometalera", without any doubt, is due to which, in turn, bore Crimson Glory.
There are, in the Kingdom of the Metal, a number of bands that, despite its achievements and its high quality, they have never taken the place that really merit, were intended to have. Crimson Glory, pobretes, are one of those bands. They came to play in large halls, they headlined festivals, they starred in their good covers in journals, appeared in television programmes.
Transcendence rezume power, claw, fall, and is really the best that you can have in your particular discography. Crimson Glory became one of the bands of worship in the 80's due to their frontman Midnight, a type of enigmatic, very charismatic if you like, and a difficult character, with his particular voice gave him a unique label this band

296 Death - Leprosy (1988)

Death is the forerunner of Death Metal, a style which inherited its name from the same band and located them in the Centre of the magnifying glass, not only by his profile and identity, but because he was really able to transmit around a display of dexterity and ferocity very idiosyncratic, combining primitive brutality with a professionalism and obvious sanity.
Leprosy is the second album by the American death metal band, Death. The album was released on November 16, 1988. In this album, even you can see the death metal sound old-school that dominated in the beginning the band, which would vary in subsequent publications. The content of the lyrics of this album mainly discusses the misery, tragedy and death which should bear the human being.
Unlike Scream Bloody Gore, which had only Chuck on guitar, this album Death had an additional guitarist, Rick Rozz, which followed the same lines as Chuck, disassociating both guitars only at the time of the solos.
Who was behind the drums now would be Bill Andrews, replacing Chris Reifert, who had left to form his own band, Autopsy, other great pioneers in this branch. Bill Andrews gave more strength to the battery in Death, demonstrating a great use of the double bass drum, which always appears at the moment just in each of the compositions.
The disk before us has the virtue of being everything a classic in its genre, a style of music with a wide scene within the Metal and also so misunderstood by thousands of people, called Death Metal, emerged from the bowels more dark and renegridas of Thrash and it came to light in the second half of the 1980s after being hidden for a time in the corners and shadows of Florida.
Leprosy is one of those unforgettable discs, his classic title is sometimes countered when certain sectors indicate that it becomes very repetitive, and while it is true that it is a round uniform, all riffs that are composed are full of expertise, in addition to being undoubtedly influential. As absolutely necessary, a work with a great touch of torment around it from beginning to end, which gives identity, purity and power.

297 Destruction - Release From Agony (1988)

Destruction is a thrash metal band from of Lörrach, to the South of Germany, formed by Marcel Schmier, on bass and vocals, Mike Sifringer, on guitar and Thomas Sandmann, on drums. The band is considered one of the four great thrash metal along with Sodom, Kreator and Tankard. The band originally called "Knight of Demon", changed its name in 1984.
During the 1990s, Destruction not signed with major record labels and was forced to self-produce their albums, until he signed a contract with Nuclear Blast in 2000.
Destruction in full 1988 were an undeniable force of Teutonic Thrash Metal. 298 Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II (1988)

In 1988, Helloween recorded the second part of his epic saga, Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 2, which would become the spearhead for international markets. This album is regarded as one of the fundamental pillars in the melodic metal scene. Keeper 2 reached even greater success than its predecessor, being the best-selling album in the history of the group, thanks to songs such as "I Want Out" or "Eagle Fly Free", with which Helloween became known in the United States and the rest of the world. "i Want Out" is one of the banners of this album songs, and that since that boots is known by default which is one of the best songs of the band. And as if little comes to close Keeper Of The Seven Keys, one of the best in the band, a masterpiece of thirteen-minute starts with acoustics and showing the great moment in which the Group was in all its splendor. A song that rises and falls of intensity and speed, with a captivating chorus; the song that gives the name to the album.
Despite his success, Keeper 2 brought with it a heavy load: the unhappy Kai Hansen growing pressures and contractual arrangements with Noise records, in addition to the new sound (more melodic and commercial) that was taking the band at that time, a contramano of desire of Kiske and Weikath experience yet beyond the possibilities of metalI've been to Hansen to take the difficult decision to leave the band after the tour through Europe. After collaborating with Blind Guardian, make the decision together with vocalist Ralf Scheepers of forming a new band, closer to power metal, with the name of Gamma Ray.
After a break of two years and much speculation about the future of the band, Helloween decides to finally continue without its guitarist, who is replaced by the prominent guitarist Rampage, Roland Grapow, who had already accompanied the band during the second part of the tour's Keeper 2 by United States. With this new line-up, and despite the enormous success that meant their two previous albums, Helloween continued discussion between surviving and dissolution.

300 King Diamond - Them (1988)

The third installment of King Diamond, in which he managed what seemed impossible: overcome outweigh the already madurísima and elaborate formula of Abigail. The absence in this album from Michael Denner and Timi Hansen, replaced by musicians of more metal sound, left the group a little farther from the tasty, dense atmosphere of Mercyful fate, that it was only as a own Diamond.
"Them" album with a metal of the most brilliant, original, adorned and flowery, always full of details, atmosphere, rhythm and tone changes everywhere that, far from sickly comings of pot always progressive, are at the service of a very fluid musicality and, above all, the story told. It is one of those discs that can be heard many times without quench prepare it should take them a long time. Full of Baroque riffs as the Wellcome home or Mother's getting weaker, along with other heavier as Tea or Twilight simphony, this marvel of disc has a couple of scary cuts that directly scary: the intro Out from the asylum and through Them, perfect to relieve a little of both eardrums double bass drum and others.
King continued amidst developing terror stories full of Music Orchestra, with the basis of Abigail, Them was a success reaching highlight on MTV with the Welcome Home video.
