In the last report of the United Nations Fund for children (UNICEF) entitled of "Progress for the children a Balance on the nutrition", he determined that in the world today there are 146 million children under five years with serious child malnutrition problems. According to the document, 28 per cent of these children are from Africa, 17% of the Middle East, 15% Asian, 7% of Latin America and the Caribbean, 5% of Central Europe, and 27% of other developing countries.
Cuba however does not have these problems, being the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean that has removed the child malnutrition, all this thanks to the efforts of the Government to improve the food, especially of those most vulnerable groups. In addition, the United Nations food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has also recognized as the nation with more progress in Latin America in the fight against malnutrition.
This is because the Cuban State guarantees a basic food basket and promotes the benefits of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding to hold until the fourth month of life and complementing it with other foods until six months of age. In addition, it is daily delivery of a litre of fluid milk to all children zero to seven years of age. Along with other foods such as stewed fruit, juices and foods which are distributed inan equitable manner.
Not for nothing the Organization of the United Nations itself, (UN) puts the country at the forefront of the implementation of human development. And if it were not enough by the year 2015, has among its objectives the eradication of and ensuring environmental sustainability.
