style = "color: orange" > the game takes place in year 2508 [citation required] when a huge spaceship mining, the USG Ishimura (Japanese: «??', which literally means "village stone"), comes into contact with an unknown artifact alien in a distant stellar system, sending a distress signal to Concord Mining Corporation —(en_inglés:_Concordance_Extraction_Corporation), known simply as Concordia - during a mining operationbefore losing all communication with the earth so inexplicable. The offices of Concord sent to USG Kellion, a space shuttle, to repair the communications antenna. USG Kellion, by arriving at the site trying to attach to the Ishimura, causing a malfunction in the system, making crashing the ship within the area of coupling of the Ishimura. Then the crew begins to look for other means of transportation. As they explore what appears to be an abandoned ship, they are attacked by monsters who end up with half the crew, saving Zach Hammond, Kendra Daniel and Isaac Clarke the latter – going separately from the other two-. Hammond recognizes that many of the spacecraft systems are failing, so he directs Kendra and helps to Isaac in the settlement of the ship, as well as to keep everyone alive.

During these tours, Isaac discovers several records audio and text scattered by the spacecraft about events that occurred prior to your arrival. Among these, it is discovered that the ship's captain was actually an agent of the Uniología, a large and influential religious cult. The Ishimura had been assigned to recover the most valuable relic of this cult, called the effigy (English: "The Marker"), which was located on Aegis VII, under the guise of an illegal mining operation. Shortly before the effigy was extracted and takenthe colony; civilians, who were the first inhabitants in the colony established on the planet, began to suffer from hysteria and violent hallucinations, before being subsequently some registrants to suicide and they kill each other. Captain cut traffic and communications from the spacecraft, and later became insane. Dr. Terrance Kynek, scientific director of the ship, trying to relieve his captain, accidentally kills him in a struggle. An alien body then began to devastate the colony, infecting the bodies of the dead, becoming "Necromorfos" - scientific name given by Dr. Kynek (English: "Necromorph")-, which are organisms that kill all settlers, starting the infestation. Then the body was extended to the Ishimura via a transportation service of the colony took several Necromorfos, which crashed in the area of docking the ship. Although Hammond expresses not having knowledge about the effigy, Kendra confesses to Clarke that she believes that Hammond is lying. Isaac then meets his girlfriend Nicole, one crew member of the Ishimura, despite the fact that they are unable to have physical contact.
